Back Burner is a meal prep app made by Back Burner Eats. This page explains what information we collect on this website and in the app, why, and what you can do about it. Short version: we collect what we need to run the app, we don't sell your information, and you can ask us to delete it.
The waitlist
When you join the waitlist we store your email address, the date you signed up, and where you came from (for example, a link a creator shared). To stop spam we also keep a one-way scrambled version of your network address, which can't be turned back into the address itself. We use your email only to tell you about the beta and the launch.
Your account in the app
- Sign-in: your email address, or your Google account's name and email if you sign in with Google.
- Your recipes and plans: the links you share to the app, the recipe text we read from them, a thumbnail image, your edits, notes, ratings, meal plans, shopping lists and nutrition targets.
- Subscriptions: whether you have Pro and when it renews. Payments are handled by Google Play or the App Store; we never see your card details.
Who processes your information
We use a few services to run Back Burner. They handle information only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase stores the app's data and runs its servers.
- Anthropic (Claude) reads the text of recipe posts you import, to turn them into clean recipes and estimate nutrition.
- USDA FoodData Central receives ingredient names (never anything about you) to look up nutrition.
- RevenueCat, with Google Play and the App Store, manages subscriptions.
- Resend sends sign-in codes and waitlist emails.
We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Recipe creators
We keep the link to each post you import, the creator's name, and the recipe text needed to build your copy of the recipe. We don't re-host creators' videos, and every recipe links back to the original post.
Your choices
You can delete your account and everything in it from the Profile tab in the app; see Delete your account. To leave the waitlist, or if you can't get into the app, email hello@backburnereats.com. Back Burner isn't meant for children under 13.
Changes
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date above.
